boxing tips

Whether you’re new to boxing or you’ve had a few sessions in the gym already, there’s always room for improvement. You’re never too old or experienced to learn a few new boxing tips and tricks. So if you’re looking to improve your boxing skills, maintain high health and fitness levels, and gain overall boxing experience, have a look at the following useful boxing tips and tricks to include in your next workout session.

1. Remember to breathe properly

Breathing properly, in any exercise regime, is an important part of maintaining your momentum. Be sure to exhale as you punch and inhale when you retract. This will open your lungs enough to ensure you receive adequate amounts of oxygen to complete your workout session. Sure, you may be tired at the end of the day, but it won’t be because you’re not receiving enough oxygen.

2. Purchase a heavier glove

Your glove size depends on your body weight, as seen below. However, if you want to get more out of your workout in the same amount of time, purchase one size bigger. This will fatigue your shoulders faster – giving you more workout for your money.

3. Keep your hands up

Whilst getting an amazing workout, you also want to use the correct techniques to protect your face at all times. Always keep your hands above your chin and punch straight out. This technique will work your shoulders to the max and ensure you learn the real way to box.

4. Make your warm-ups count

You can prevent boxing injuries by warming up properly, but you also can’t be lazy. Make the most out of your warm-ups by doing as your instructor says and going all out. You’re in the class for a reason, whether you want to lose weight or improve your skills. So be all in or not at all.

5. Don’t forget to encourage

Your boxing workout can get tough towards the end, in which case you’ll need a little bit of encouragement. Remember, you’re all there to make the most out of your workout, so when you see a team member needing encouragement to complete the set, don’t shy away. They’ll do the same when you need it.
