As driven human beings, we tend to overdo it at times; especially if you work a full-time job and spend plenty of overtime at the gym. We understand. The more time you spend working out, the better you feel. The better you feel, the more time you want to spend working out. However, ever so often, it all gets the better of us. Too much can be bad for your health, in which case it’s a good idea to take a rest day.

Keep an eye open for these 5 important signs you need a rest day:

1. You’re getting sick

Falling ill is quite an obvious sign that you’re overworking your body a little bit too much. Exhaustion, known as being overly tired, can also cause nausea and vomiting, or even enable you to catch the going around bug that you normally would be able to fight off without a doubt. If you find yourself getting sick more often, take a little break.

 

2. Exhaustion comes after a 9-hour rest

You just can’t seem to get enough sleep. Making sure you get to bed at a reasonable hour in order to wake up refreshed the next morning is something you do when working out. However, if you wake up feeling tired even after getting the normal 8-9 hours of sleep, you’re more than just tired. You’re most likely exhausted or have a more serious medical condition going on.

3. You’re dehydrated

Feeling thirsty is one of the last signs your body is dehydrated. Working out excessively can cause your body to become dehydrated even after drinking water. It could be that you’re sweating out more water than you’re putting back due to working out more than you should.

 

4. It’s been 5 consecutive days of training

There is such a thing as working out too much; especially if you’re working out 5-6 days a week. Not only are you most likely experiencing sore muscles, you’re definitely feeling a little bit fatigued from not giving your muscles time to recuperate. As much as you need to sleep in order to be productive the next day, your muscles need time to rest in order to rebuild themselves. If not, you may end up burning muscle instead of fat.

 

5. You’ve been sore for more than 3-days

Feeling soreness from working out is quite normal. If not, you’re probably not working out hard enough. However, being sore for more than 3-days means your muscles are feeling fatigued. It’s important to give them enough time recover after each workout in order to get back in the gym faster. Rest is important.

Go easy on yourself. It’s normal to want to push yourself when you start seeing results, however, you can put yourself back quite a bit if you work out too hard.
